Overview
Flopyramide [18F] is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical developed by Atom Hi-Tech, a subsidiary of China Isotope & Radiation Corporation, for use as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent. It is specifically designed to target melanin, a pigment that is highly concentrated in melanoma cells. As a picolinamide derivative, flopyramide [18F] exhibits high affinity and specificity for melanin, enabling the sensitive detection of both primary melanoma and metastatic lesions, including those in the lymph nodes and distant organs. The drug is currently in late-stage clinical development (Phase 3) in China, aiming to provide a more accurate diagnostic tool for the staging and monitoring of melanoma compared to conventional tracers like [18F]FDG, which can have lower specificity in certain inflammatory contexts.
